Hypertension : Our body is comprised of a network of tiny tubes and vessels that function as the transporters of blood. When the blood travels through these vessels, it applies pressure along their walls and gives rise to what we commonly call blood pressure. When this blood pressure that is exerted along the walls of these vessels remains elevated for an extended period of time, it gives rise to Hypertension or high blood pressure.
Hypercholesterolemia : In common parlance, 'Hypercholesterolemia' refers to the presence of high levels of cholesterol in the blood. It is very important for you to know that this condition is a metabolic disturbance and not a disease in itself. None the less, it has been the contributing factor for many other diseases such as heart problems and high blood pressure.
Diabetes : Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that affects the way our body digests food for growth and energy. Most of what we eat is broken down into glucose in the form of sugar in the blood. After digestion, glucose passes into the bloodstream, where it is used by cells for growth and energy. It takes the help of the hormone insulin to enter the cells in our body.
Smoking : Scientifically speaking, the act of smoking refers to the inhalation of the smoke from burning tobacco which comes encased in cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. You can say that you have a smoking habit if you suffer from a physical addiction to tobacco products. While casual smoking is more an act of smoking only occasionally, in a social setting or to relieve stress, habitual smoking is a psychological addiction, and one that comes with serious health consequences.
Obesity : You may often have heard people using the term ‘Obesity’. While some of them might be in the know of what this condition actually is, most of the times, the word is used quite loosely. So, Obesity occurs when your body weight exceeds that which is normally considered healthy. In numerical terms, you can only be called obese if you weight more than 20 percent more than your ideal body weight.
